MEDVIS 3D - Research Projects

The core technology of MEDVIS 3D is used as basis for various research projects with the RISC Software GmbH. The core framework incorporates several advanced segmentation and meshing algorithms to generate FEM simulation meshes from medical image stacks. Based this models MEDVIS 3D provides means for CPU/GPU based fast numerical computational flow dynamics (CFD) and computational structure dynamics (CSD) solvers using Algebraic Multigrid solver from KF University of Graz. This was developed by a FFG MODSIM project from 2008-2010 together with AKH Linz, LNK Wagner Jauregg Linz and dTech Steyr GmbH.

The next milestone was the application of this blood flow technology for simulation of neurosurgical clipping interventions in the FFG BRIDGE project “Virtual Aneurysm” from 2013 to 2015 together with AKH Linz, LNK Wagner Jauregg Linz and Aesculap AG (Germany).

Our latest research project “EndoPredictor” started in late 2015 in the frame of the FFG program “Innovatives OÖ 2020” together with the Kepler Universitätsklinikum Linz and Mattes Medical Imaging. The goal is to predict possibilities of diverse complications after endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR).
