The Research Department for Medical Informatics of the RISC Software GmbH presented at the International Simulation and Modelling Conference SpringSim 2016 in Pasadena, California, the latest results of the latest research project “EndoPredictor” in the field of numerical simulation of blood flow.

In a previous research project “Virtual Aneurysm” a simulator for neurosurgery was developed in cooperation with the Landesnervenklinik Wagner-JaureggWagner-Jauregg, the Linz General Hospital, which have now both incorporated in the Kepler University Hospital, as well as with the German neurosurgical clip producer Aesculap AG. The core MEDVIS 3D technology for simulating blood flow and blood vessel walls is used in the recently started research project “EndoPredictor” for prediction of complications in Abdominal Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) treatments. This project is funded by the FFG program “Innovative Upper Austria 2020”, and carried out in cooperation with the Kepler Universitätsklinikum. The project goal is to develop means to predict the probabilities of different possible complications due to the extraction of geometric parameters and the simulation of blood flow after surgical treatment of aortic aneurysms.

First project results and an outlook on the expected results were presented by Dr. Wolfgang Fenz. The international audience showed great interest and some promising new contacts were made for future scientific cooperation.
